The SEC & Financial Reporting Manager (“Financial Reporting Manager”) is a critical role at JH, with purview over the consolidated regulatory financial reporting of all entities within the JH Capital Holdings Group umbrella.   He/she has overall responsibility for the company’s SEC financial reporting process, directly interacting with the company’s corporate controller, subsidiary controllers, and other key finance and accounting department personnel.

 

 

The ideal candidate must have solid expertise and understanding in all aspects of the technical accounting and SEC reporting, including, but not limited to topics such as: joint venture accounting, revenue recognition from contracts with customers under ASC 606, loan and debt securities with deteriorated credit quality under ASC 310-30, debt issuance costs, equity and equity based compensation, variable interest entities, and hedging.

This position reports to the Director of SEC & Financial Reporting, who reports to the Chief Accounting Officer.

Responsibilities

The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for managing the regulatory financial reporting process at the consolidated corporate entity level for JH.  He/she will collaborate with the Corporate Controller and other roles within the corporate and subsidiary finance and accounting departments to assure effective financial reporting and compliance with all financial regulations and procedures.

Quantitative and analytical, the Financial Reporting Manager is detail-oriented and can spot errors and discrepancies in financial data quickly and accurately.  He/she has excellent communication skills, particularly written, as a large portion of the job involves developing reports and providing summaries and/or disclosures as related to the financial results. The successful Financial Reporting Manager will be able to manage many different priorities at once, meeting frequent deadlines.

Prepare Reports and Financial Statements

  • Responsible for the entire process of preparing all routine quarterly and annual statements and filings, as well as other interim filings, as situationally required by the SEC. This includes, but is not limited to, all face statements, disclosure notes and required schedules, including maintaining sufficient related detailed work paper support.
  • Responsible for preparing all other important reports or support for additional items. This includes, but is not limited to earnings statements, MD&A, business, overview, risk factors, investor presentations, proformas, etc., including maintaining sufficient related detailed work paper support.
  • Standardize the reporting process while also working to improve and streamline it, identifying, driving and implementing process change opportunities and initiatives throughout the JH organization.
  • Responsible for the use and training across the JH organization of the systems and tools used for SEC reporting purposes (this and the above include concurrent filing of XBRL exhibits). Includes oversight of vendor and vendor provides services.  Includes hands-on familiarity with the application and its feature set as well as all JH financial data contained within.
  • Review and maintain financial records to ensure accessibility and readiness for internal and external needs, including auditors.

Ensure SEC Compliance

  • Highly knowledgeable in financial reporting procedures, specifically those that pertain to the SEC, the Financial Reporting Manager helps to ensure that the entire company is compliant in the area of financial reporting and disclosure.
  • Ensures that Corporate Controller, subsidiary finance and accounting departments and other key management roles (e.g. CFO, CAO) are aware of and following all up-to-date policies and procedures related to SEC reporting. The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for working with the correct party to resolve any reporting errors or discrepancies.
  • Develops, implement and/or directs enhancements to accounting control procedures.
  • Reads all significant business agreements to determine the effect on reporting, and to ensure the company stays in compliance.

Qualifications

  • Must possess excellent technical, analytical, and strong executive communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent knowledge of US GAAP and SEC regulations and reporting requirement, and proficiency with researching accounting literature.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to work hands-on and with a sense of urgency, in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional, high-growth environment, and to lead and drive complex initiatives.
  • Ability to build relationships within the finance team and across JH

Education / Credentialing Requirements

  • CPA with 6-8+ years of progressive, relevant experience, with a mix of public accounting (Big 4 or second tier) and public company industry experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance with masters in accounting or MBA being a plus.
  • Financial services experience is a plus
